Hello!

My name is Nate Gates, and I am a wedding / portrait / editorial / fine art photographer based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
My main goal is to capture the true emotions and personalities of my clients, and to come up with original concepts while pushing the boundaries of the average portrait.

I approach each photo session with a fresh outlook, always striving to create something unique and exciting by blending fine-art, and photo-journalistic styles, and using modern post-processing techniques. I shoot weddings with a fashion edge, going beyond established styles and widening the boundaries of photographic expression.

Kelly & Stephen – Jamaica! – January 28, 2010

I love to travel as much as I love shooting weddings, so when Kelly and Stephen contacted me about photographing their destination wedding, I was more than excited!   It was our first time in Jamaica, and Julie and I had such a wonderful experience.  Everyone made us feel so welcome.. we really felt like we were vacationing with 40 of our closest friends!   The five-star Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Resort was spectacular.  The beach was beautiful, and  it was hot and sunny every day.  What better time to get out of Newfoundland and Labrador than at the end of January!

Julie and I were absolutely honoured to be a part of your special day (ok, week!).  Congratulations guys and we wish you a fantastic future together!!

Erin & Matthew – October 23, 2009

I photographed the Hart family a year and a half ago (see here).  I had such a great experience working with them, so I was really happy to be able to photograph Erin and Matthew’s wedding this past October.  It was great to see everybody again, and little Rhys has grown so much.. he is such a handsome little dude!

Robin & Anthony – October 17, 2009

After an awesome Engagement shoot with Robin and Anthony, I knew from that experience that their wedding would be a good one.  We had all sorts of weather to contend with, but these guys are tough!  We worked it out, and the photos are magic.
