Hello!

My name is Nate Gates, and I am a wedding / portrait / editorial / fine art photographer based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
My main goal is to capture the true emotions and personalities of my clients, and to come up with original concepts while pushing the boundaries of the average portrait.

I approach each photo session with a fresh outlook, always striving to create something unique and exciting by blending fine-art, and photo-journalistic styles, and using modern post-processing techniques. I shoot weddings with a fashion edge, going beyond established styles and widening the boundaries of photographic expression.

Erin & Matthew – October 23, 2009

I photographed the Hart family a year and a half ago (see here).  I had such a great experience working with them, so I was really happy to be able to photograph Erin and Matthew’s wedding this past October.  It was great to see everybody again, and little Rhys has grown so much.. he is such a handsome little dude!

After an awesome Engagement shoot with Robin and Anthony, I knew from that experience that their wedding would be a good one.  We had all sorts of weather to contend with, but these guys are tough!  We worked it out, and the photos are magic.

Jamaican me crazy!

Julie and I just got back from an awesome “work holiday” in Jamaica.  I was there to photograph Kelly and Stephen’s wedding, which will be on the blog very soon!!   For now, here are a few fun photos from our trip..

 

I also did a lot of scuba diving in Montego Bay.  HERE is a quick video of a giant sea turtle we followed.

Tara & Rob – October 16, 2009

Tara and Rob had their wedding ceremony and reception at the Admiral’s Green.  It was a cold day, but we toughed it out and got some great shots of the bridal party in and around Pippy Park.  Congratulations to Tara and Robert!  All the best to you both!

..and of course, no wedding is complete without Mark Janes!

Melissa & Terrence – October 10, 2009

Melissa and Terrence had a wonderful wedding day in Fortune and Marystown.  At their reception, there were numerous comments and toasts made to the fact that these two are meant for each other, and after spending some time with them I would have to agree that it’s true.. times infinity!
