I just completed teaching a series of workshops.. both Photography Basics and Advanced Photography. I would like to thank everyone for coming, and for making both workshops a great success! Again, Katie was a fantastic model! I look forward to seeing some of your images from the class.. in the meantime, here are some of my favourites from the Advanced shoot!
This past June, I offered a series of workshops at both the beginner and advanced levels.
I had a tremendous response from you guys, and both workshops were a great success!
The first workshop – Nate Gates Photography Basics – focused on the fundamentals of SLR operation.. how to use your camera!
In the second workshop – Nate Gates Advanced Photography – we delved more into lighting, composition, and post processing techniques.
On day 2 of the advanced workshop, we had a wonderful model, Katie, who allowed me to demonstrate some natural lighting techniques indoors, and then we headed out to Middle Cove for a shoot on the beach.
I would like to share with you now some of my images from the shoot, as well as my favourites from some of the people in the class. Awesome work, guys!!

Here is another shoot from 2008 that I wanted to make sure made it onto the Blog. How gorgeous is this family?!! There should be a law.
I’m still catching up on some over-due posts from the end of 2008 (as you can see by the lack of snow in these photos!) Here are some shots I took of the Sinyard family out at Middle Cove. They are such a great family and Sophie and Owen are two of the coolest kids around. 
I spend a lot of time at Middle Cove Beach, photographing families and wedding parties. It is always beautiful, but on the day I photographed little Claire and her family, it was unlike I had ever seen it.  The waves were so strong and so huge! This was not long after an incident in September when a ’rogue wave’ crashed onto the shore, dragging 4 people out into the ocean. Sounds unbelievable, but you can read about it here. We were lucky on this day to be able to watch the magnificent waves from a safe distance. It was pretty awesome.

Tristen is an uber-cool kid who likes to watch Star Wars movies with his Dad. If Darth Vader had been at Middle Cove Beach the day we had our shoot, Tristen would have taken him out.. no question.
