Nate Gates – Advanced Photography Workshop

First, I have to thank you guys for the incredible response to my ‘Photography Basics’ class!
It has filled up quickly.. and I am really looking forward to working with you all!

I would now like to plan for a more advanced workshop.  For this class you should already know how to operate your camera and to get a proper exposure in varied light levels.

Subjects to be covered ->

  • A further study of good light and how to use light in what might be considered less conventional ways
  • ‘available magic’ – off camera artificial light sources – what the gear options are, how they work (the rules) and how to make them work for you
  • lens selection and how it affects your images
  • composition – how to arrange the stuff in your viewfinder so it looks good  (this subject could use a full seminar on it’s own, so we’ll just touch on some of this)
  • post processing – a Lightroom/Photoshop workflow – how to make good images look better
  • using textures and layers to enhance your images

This class will be $135 for 2 three-hour sessions, I am thinking June 23 and 30th at 6-9 pm.

Again, please let me know soon if you are interested in taking part.  This is gonna be a fun one!

Kevin & Dawn

I just love it when my wedding couples bring something new and fresh to the table, and Kevin and Dawn really stepped it up a notch.  These guys were so much fun to photograph!  Dawn loved the camera, and the camera loves her right back!  We got some seriously awesome images, and made the most of a wonderful day.  Thanks for inviting me to share it with you.  Bonus points for the epic Star Wars masks!

Nate Gates – Photography Seminars

I have had loads of people ask me about teaching a class or classes on everything from the very basics of photography to more advanced lighting and post-production techniques.  After much thought, I figure if I am going to offer a class I better do it soon, before I get too swamped with work.

I will begin with a ‘Photography Basics’ class, which will cover the following :

Aperture - What is it exactly?
Shutter speed - How it works, when to use what settings
Basic Exposure – How to use them together to produce desired results
White Balance
Depth of field
ISO numbers
Learn to find and see ‘good’ light anywhere.
Putting it all together to make some rad photos

Photoshop vs. Lightroom - Getting started on making your photos look better.

This is a hands-on workshop.  Bring your cameras (and manuals)!

The ‘Photography Basics’ class will be broken into two 3-hour sessions, from 6 – 9 pm on June 9th and 16th.

Space will be limited, so please let me know soon if you are interested in attending!

I will also be offering a more advanced seminar.. stay tuned for details on that!

Heather & Mike – Newlyweds!

Heather and Mike were married on May 2nd, but I was booked for another wedding (previously posted).  Because they still wanted to have some awesome images, we got together a few days later for a ‘Bridal’ session.  I have to say that these sessions are some of my favourite to photograph.  It is like the best part of the wedding day, without the confines of the wedding day schedule.  Heather and Mike really rocked it!  I had a great time with you guys.. I hope you enjoy your pictures!!
